Schools To Get Millions For AV Pro And PC Gear

By David Richards and Computer Daily News | Wednesday | 28/01/2009

Several distributors in partnership with custom installers are set to bid for contracts to fit out Australian schools with a new generation of presentation gear spanning projectors, mounts and screens and intelligent whiteboards, following a new round of funding from the Federal Government.

The new systems will be used in conjunction with thousands of new PC's that are set to be handed out to schools.
Earlier this week the Rudd Government confirmed that it is set to provide another fillip to the Australian PC industry with the launch of Round 2 of its computers-for-schools program, which will see 141,600 new PCs bought for 1394 schools across Australia.

Canberra is providing $141 million – or roughly $1000 per PC – for the latest round – most of which will be spent in Queensland and Victoria after NSW last year dallied on support for the program.

A senior education department insider in NSW told ChannelNews that the "The integration of some of the PC equipment with commercial quality presentation systems is essential. More money has to be spent on present gear as opposed to more and more PC's. We also need commercial quality gear as in some education departments the gear is on for normal school classes and night school".
