Ledger Unveils Nano Gen5 Secure Touchscreen Crypto Signer
Ledger has launched the Nano Gen5, introducing a redesigned hardware crypto signer aimed at making self custody more accessible. Priced at A$179, the device marks a shift from the company’s long running USB style format to a secure touchscreen design.
The Nano range has been central to Ledger’s growth since the Nano S debuted in 2016, going on to become one of the best selling crypto hardware wallets globally. Previous models such as the Nano X and Nano S Plus built on that foundation. The Gen5 continues that lineage but replaces physical buttons and small displays with a larger secure touchscreen.

At its core is Ledger’s established security architecture, including a Secure Element chip, Ledger OS and a Secure Screen that enables Clear Signing of supported transactions. The touchscreen is directly driven by the Secure Element, meaning transaction details shown on screen cannot be altered by malware on a connected computer or smartphone. Users can review amounts, wallet addresses and permissions in human readable language before confirming.
Connectivity has also expanded. The Nano Gen5 supports USB C, Bluetooth and NFC, and integrates with the Ledger Wallet app. Through the app, users can buy, sell, swap, stake and manage more than 10,000 digital assets while keeping private keys stored on the device.

Ledger positions the Gen5 as a response to the increasing complexity of crypto activity, from decentralised finance and NFTs to multi chain transactions. As scams and phishing attacks become more sophisticated, particularly with the rise of AI driven fraud, hardware based verification is being emphasised as a safeguard.
The device also introduces the Ledger Recovery Key, a PIN protected backup solution designed to restore access if the signer is lost or replaced. Existing Nano S owners can access a 20 per cent upgrade programme when moving to newer models including the Gen5.
In a nod to the brand’s heritage, the Nano Gen5 can be customised with optional badges designed by Susan Kare, known for her early Macintosh icon work.
With a secure touchscreen, expanded connectivity and a lower entry price than some premium models, the Nano Gen5 signals Ledger’s push to modernise self custody while maintaining its long standing security model.
