Exclusive: OZ Management Team Quits HTC Taiwanese Management Slammed

By David Richards | Wednesday | 14/05/2008

The entire Australian management team of smart phone Company HTC has quit with the former managing director slamming the Company as being a Taiwanese Company that is ?Not the place for him?. John Featherstone the former MD said ?The Company is applying Taiwanese marketing practises that will not work in Australia. I believe that they want the Company to be completely Taiwanese run?.

He added "The place was not for me and I am now moving on. They treat Australia as if it Taiwan where the brand is known. I do not want to go through the pain that this Company will suffer due to their thinking and methods".
Also quitting the Company is Natasha Wright the former marketing manager. Since the Company was launched in Australia on the 31st of October 2007 HTC who is a key global partner of Microsoft has gone through 2 PR Companies Max Australia and Upstream.

At the launch press conference the Company bragged that they would be "1 in the Smart Phone market in Australia.
Another Company insider said "This is a Company that makes a lot of claims but have not got a clue about marketing. Right now they are buying their way into the Australian market by dumping money into the pockets of carriers to promote and sell their phone. They are also suffering from illusions in that they believe that they can take on the Apple iPhone when it launches. The only problem is that no one knows who HTC is and they are not prepared to invest in brand marketing to take on the likes of Nokia, Apple, Sony Ericsson or even Motorola".

Late last year Natasha Wright admitted that she was struggling to get Australian marketing initiatives to be accepted by Taiwanese management running the Company. "They want a brand but don't want to spend the money" she said.
She said today" I have quite the Company and I will be leaving in 8 weeks time". When asked whether there were any Australian management left in the Company she said "No".
