The affected product is the Dyson DC05 Motorhead vacuum cleaner that was sold between the year 2000 and 2005 in major national electrical retailers.

According to the notice posted on Product Safety Recalls Australia, the clip on the DC05 Motorhead wand handle has been found to crack and this can cause the hose to become detached resulting in electrical connections being exposed.

Dyson Australia's Managing Director, Ross Cameron said that out of the 25,000 units sold, there were only known cases where the handle was broken.

"This is not a recall but a safety notice. It (DC05) is almost 10 years old now but we want to assure our customers that we are doing our best to address this issue. The problem is that the clip that snaps in and secured by a screw may wear out, exposing the electrical connections found on the slip rings," said Cameron.

"If these connections are touched while the machine is plugged in, there is a risk of electrical shock. We advise users to call us immediately so that we can provide them with a new hose. If the hose is intact, then we will provide users with a low profile clamp for added safety," added Cameron.

The official Safety Notice found on the Dyson website (http://www.dyson.com.au/support/dc05Notice.asp) stated that they will be giving discounts to users who opt to purchase a new Dyson vacuum cleaner instead of getting a new hose or reinforcing cuff.

"If they do not want a replacement hose and are uncomfortable using the DC05, then we would gladly offer another model at a discounted price. We want our customers leaving with a good feeling. It may seem to be a small thing, but we take these matters very seriously before it becomes a bigger issue," concluded Cameron.
